Much like the streetscape of Downtown Cincinnati has been transformed – with a new Fountain Square and Government Square, together with a renovated Duke Energy Center and a plethora of recently unveiled nightspots – so, too, has the virtual world of Downtown Cincinnati Inc.
DowntownCincinnati.com was first launched in 1999, and while the site over the years continued to function with a high level of interactivity, the time was right for a facelift. In addition, DCI and metaphor decided to merge the content from GoToTown.com – the eat, shop, play and stay information – to make surfing Downtown more seamless and user friendly. metaphor redesigned the entire site while integrating a majority of the original programming with our proprietary software, editspot.
A novel aspect of the DCI public Web site was a user-friendly mapping system DCI adopted long before Google and other services made it the norm, a trusty application that was preserved with the new site.
“The integration of a legacy applications into a new site can technologically challenging;,” said Troy Davis, metaphor’s chief technology officer. “We now have a cohesive system that not only preserves vital applications from the past but also gives DCI the ability to manage the content throughout the rest of their site. The integration went very well.”
