city hall welcome event for vh1 rocks the network and star vj
VH1 VJ Alison Becker now knows the meaning of the regional brand tag-line of “all together surprising” as her welcome event in City Council Chamber at Cincinnati City Hall on Sept, 5, 2008, truly rocked her world.
metaphor studio orchestrated one of the most colorful news conferences in Cincinnati’s history by enlisting “all together surprising” talents – an effort that led Becker to pen on her blog, "Bonkers! Cincinnati is the best!"
A diverse mix of voices gave Becker rock-star treatment in City Council Chambers on a very memorable Friday afternoon, an event VH1 filmed with a hand-held camera and aired on the Top 20 Video Countdown program Sept. 13, 14, and 16, 2008. The music network was so captivated by the high-energy proceedings that a LA-based VH1 vice president snapped photos during the City Hall festivities and emailed them to VH1 management in real time as the events unfolded.
Among the honors Becker – a noted actress and comedian with scores of national TV and movie credits to her name – received:
Representatives of the Ivory Soap Brand unveiled an Ivory Soap bust of Becker.
Members of Mayor Mallory's YP Kitchen Cabinet rolled out a Cincinnati-Red carpet in honor of Becker and dropped rose petals in her path as she entered Council Chambers.
Presentation of a mayoral proclamation naming Sept. 5, 2008, as "Alison Becker Day" in Cincinnati. Becker also was recognized with a proclamation from Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland.
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bootsy Collins bestowed upon Becker a specially tailored King of Funk hat, as well as a pair of his famed star shades.
Ben-Gal cheerleaders presented Becker with a specially tailored Bengals jersey bearing the No. 20 and the nameplate reading "Mucho Video" in honor of Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson, who recently changed his legal name to Chad Ocho Cinco.
Artworks unveiled a hand-painted electric guitar depicting a portrait of Becker surrounded by local icons – flying pigs and a coney hot dog – rendered by artist Scott Donaldson, creator of Campy Washington Mural in Cincinnati.
The University of Cincinnati Pep Band performed "You Can Call Me Al" in tribute to Becker's first name, Alison.
Servatii Pastry Shop created a triple-tier cake honoring VH1.
Becker's response?
On her blog she wrote, "OMG. Today was such a thrill. The city of Cincinnati presented me with an electric guitar with a portrait of me, a custom Bengals jersey, a funky hat from the King Of Funk, Bootsy Collins, a bust of myself hand-carved from Ivory Soap, and an official proclamation from the Mayor declaring today Alison Becker Day. Bonkers! Cincinnati is the best!"
Ran Mullins, founder of metaphor studio, said Becker's visit and the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown spotlight on Cincinnati and Over-the-Rhine are particularly rewarding. "When it comes to beating the drum for Cincinnati's renaissance, VH1 is No. 1 because the network shapes and defines American popular culture," Mullins said. "We delighted in making Alison rock 'n' roll royalty in the Queen City."
